Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has strengthened the activities of security agencies in the State, aimed at enhancing the protection of lives and properties.
The Governor said the donation was to enable the security personnel to penetrate the hinterlands difficult to reach in an event of crisis.
Mutfwang stated this on Thursday in Jos during the distribution of 100 motorcycles, an unspecified number of raincoats and rain boots to various security agencies in the State.
According to him: “We have procured the first batch of motorcycles to be used for surveillance. This is particularly important to ensure that the security forces give cover to our farmers.
“We have trusted God that this year, our farmers will go back to farm and many of them have done so. The activities of bandits have not ceased but with these motorcycles they will be able to enter every nook and cranny of the State”.
He emphasized that the motorcycles are not meant for unofficial use and will be seized if found being compromised.
He noted that the state has made significant strides in identifying the hiding places and entry points of criminals, adding that massive investments have been made in technology, which will be unveiled soon.
Responding, the Plateau State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), appreciated the State government for the gesture and promised that farmers will be adequately protected in their farms.
He added that the distribution of the motorcycles, raincoats and rain boots is a significant step towards addressing the security challenges in the State.
“The motorcycles will enable security agencies to respond quickly to distress calls and patrol areas that were previously inaccessible.
“The raincoats and rain boots will also ensure that security personnel are protected from these elements while on duty”, he said.
