Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Governor Mutfwang of Plateau State is set to site a film village in Jos, joining other States like Oyo, Delta, Abuja, Enugu, Lagos, etc to have a village where Nollywood filmmakers will exhibit their entertainment million-dollar business and grow local talents. https://sundiatapost.com/governor-elect-mutfwang-condemns-attack-in-plateau/
The Governor will also host the renowned Haitian born rapper and musician who lives in the United States, Wycliffe Jean to perform the ground breaking ceremony on December 28, 2023.
It is imperative to note that the Nigerian entertainment sector with particular reference to the Film Industry or Nollywood is one of the biggest non-oil sectors of the economy.
Its annual revenue is estimated at about $7 billion dollars according to the International Monitoring Funds.
Nollywood which ranks second to America‘s Hollywood and ahead of Indian Bollywood in the global film industry is one of the key sectors identified in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of the Federal Government, as a huge revenue earner and source of employment.
However, Speaking to Journalists at the weekend during a project tour where the film hub will be sited in Kuru and Mararaban Jama’a in Jos South LGA, the Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven said the venture is expected to revolutionize both the local and global landscapes where it will feature state-of-the-art music and movie studios.https://sundiatapost.com/christmas-ill-gift-plateau-intracity-railways-gov-mutfwang/
He added that the aim is for equitable wealth distribution and to provide a platform for scaling up and showcasing the talents of Plateau youths on the global stage.
“Besides, the State has also concluded arrangements for the construction of Smart City Housing Units for low, middle and high income earners for sustainable Housing developments in its comprehensive approach to make the State an economic hub”, he said.
He continued: “The Governor has directed us to ensure appropriate sites are secured so that the developers can come in as quickly as possible to commence works.
“We want to develop a State of the art film village, first of its kind in Africa here. Wycliffe Jean will be coming on the 28th December, 2023 for a peace concert and then perform the foundation laying ceremony of the Film Village.
“The governor has gotten the commitment of all developers with a view to hit the ground running.
“Mutfwang, in line with his vision to transform the State, wants to change the narrative of Plateau State being the home of Civil Service and to show that Plateau is still the destination for entertainment, peace and tourism.
“The Film Village and Jos Smart City projects when completed will generate huge revenue for the State. The development will further boost tourism and bring the State to National and International limelight. Indeed, Plateau will be the headquarters of entertainment in Africa”, he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Lands and Survey Town Planning, Peter Gai said the venture will enhance Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), to boost the economy adding that the State Government is ready to hit the ground running to ensure that the project has a timeline.
