BENIN (SUNDIATA POST)- Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has pledged enhanced welfare packages for civil servants in the state.

He made the promise on Friday in Benin while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo chapter, led by Acting Chairman Mr Bernard Egwekhide, at Government House.

The governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to being worker-friendly, stating that all benefits enjoyed by Edo workers were a responsibility his government willingly embraced.

“Whatever we are doing that benefits Edo workers is our duty as a government. Edo people elected us to serve, and we must deliver,” he said.

“We are committed to transparency in governance so the people can trust us. We also welcome constructive criticism, it helps us improve.

“The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda provides us the platform to pursue practical and impactful governance.

“We are promoting peace, unity, growth, and development throughout the state, while maintaining collaboration across all tiers and senatorial zones,” Okpebholo added.

In his remarks, Egwekhide commended the governor’s worker-friendly policies and developmental strides, noting the visit was also to congratulate him on his recent tribunal victory affirming his 2024 election win.

“Edo workers are proud of your ongoing developmental efforts and commitment to staff welfare,” he said.

He highlighted key achievements of the administration, including the payment of 13th-month salary without prompting, and increase of Ambrose Alli University’s subvention from N41 million to N500 million.

“The regularisation of casual workers, and  the raise in monthly pension payments from N50 million to N1 billion for state and local government retirees. ”

Egwekhide also noted the establishment of a committee to review the compulsory pension scheme, with its final report to be submitted soon.

“We appreciate the many employment opportunities created within this short period,” he added.

In a related development, Okpebholo also received Mr Apanke Utande, the new CBN Branch Controller, at Government House. (NAN)
