Enugu – Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has lauded the Federal Government for the current noticeable improvement in electricity supply across the country.
Ugwuanyi made the commendation on Thursday in Enugu while playing host to the House of Representatives Committee on Power led by its Chairman, Rep. Dan Asuquo.
He said, “Our struggle as a nation to achieve regular and dependable power supply has been long aborted until now.
“I must, however, commend the Federal Government, the National Assembly and of course, the power companies for the noticeable improvement recently observed in the sector.’’
The governor, commenting on the conduct of public forum on issues of billing, metering and bottlenecks in dealing with host communities, said that the exercise was essential in achieving enhanced power supply.
He urged the committee to address the complaints and outcries about billing method, and other malpractices by power distribution companies as well as difficulties in accessing power, among other challenges.
Earlier, Asuquo said that the committee’s mission included a public forum for interested members of the public to interact and brainstorm with the committee members to proffer lasting solutions to power challenges.
The committee chairman commended Ugwuanyi for his landmark achievements in the areas of infrastructure development and provision of social facilities to people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ugwuanyi had on Wednesday inaugurated a 12-man committee to handle the issue of the stalled execution of the New Haven to Nsukka National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).
Chief Nnia Nwodo, a former Minister of Information, is the chairman of the 12-man committee, while a former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, among others personalities are members.
