Port Harcourt – Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has felicitated with the leadership and members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on the association’s 53rd anniversary.
The governor’s goodwill message is contained in a statement by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu.
Wike lauded SWAN for its contributions to the development of sports and sports of reportage in the country.
He urged SWAN to sustain its contributions to sports development and reassured sports journalists of the Rivers Government’s support.
Meanwhile, SWAN President, Honour Sirawoo, has paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers and past presidents of the association as the body marks 53 years on Feb. 1.
The association was established on Feb. 1, 1964 in Lagos under the leadership of James Adebayo Thompson.
In a message to sports writers across the country, Sirawoo reflected on the contributions made by sports journalists to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria in the last 53 years.
