Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has confirmed that his administration is ready to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Government House, Uzodinma explained that the decision came after extensive discussions with the Imo Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). He highlighted the importance of the wage increase in helping workers cope with the financial pressure caused by inflation.
“We are committed to improving the welfare of the State’s workforce despite economic challenges,” Uzodinma stated. He also stressed his government’s dedication to ensuring fair compensation for the contributions of civil servants to Imo’s economic development.
The governor urged workers to respond to the new wage structure by boosting their productivity and delivering high-quality services to the people of Imo State.
“In line with our commitment to Imo workers, I had a fruitful meeting with the NLC leadership to outline plans for the quick implementation of the new national minimum wage,” Uzodinma said, expressing optimism that the new wage would be implemented soon.
NLC Chairman Comrade Chigemezu Nwigwe confirmed the development, praising the government’s focus on workers’ welfare and affirming that plans to roll out the N70,000 wage were in progress.
