Lagos -Thomas Otu, one of the favourite players at the ongoing Governor’s Cup Tennis in Lagos on Wednesday promised his fans of a better performance at the second leg of the championships.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Otu lost to the tournament’s number four seed, Antal Van Der Duim, from the Netherlands in the first leg of the championships.
Unseeded Out, who was tipped by many to get to the finals after defeating Moses Michael, dashed the hope of his fans by losing to Van Der Duim after an explosive third round match.
Otu told NAN after the match that he did not play as expected.
He, however, attributed his defeat to his over anxiety to beat his opponent.
“I made some silly mistakes because of anxiety. I wish I had treaded a little bit with caution.
“I am not happy that I lost the match. I promise to make it up in the second leg of the championships,’’ he said.
