ABUJA – Alhaji Yahaya Daudu, a governorship aspirant in Niger, has promised to provide gainful employments for the teeming youth in the state within six months if he became the governor.
The aspirant, who said he would seek nomination on the platform of Labour Party (LP) during the 2015 general elections, made the promise on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Abuja.
He said having served the state for more than 34 years; he had the privilege of identifying and understanding various necessary laudable development programmes for the state.
Daudu said that if the young men were gainfully engaged, they would shun violence and other social vices.
He said that the state had enough potential to provide jobs for young graduates so as to turn around the socio-economic activities in the state.
The aspirant said that although LP might not be as popular as the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, he had confidence that his credibility and popularity would sell him.
He also said he would reform local governments effectively to make them functional so that they could generate employments and revenue if he became the governor of the state.
While he insisted that he would not collect loans to execute development projects, Daudu said he would rather evolve other legitimate means of getting money to provide quality education, functional health system and good roads, among others.
He said he had the ambition of becoming the governor of the state more than 20 years ago; explaining the relationship between him and the incumbent Gov. Babangida Aliyu was cordial.
Daudu said he believed that the grassroots, which he said he had served well while in the civil service, were already mobilising the people for his support. (NAN)
