Lafia- The wife of the governor of Nasarawa State, Hajia Salamatu Al-Makura, on Thursday re-registered for a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.
The governor’s wife registered at the Police Barracks registration area under Ganyam Registration Electoral Ward in Lafia.
She explained that the fresh registration was because of an error in her data during the 2011 exercise.
Al-makura said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) directed her to re-register to enable her get her PVC.
She underscored the relevance of the voter card as the right of every citizen in an election.
She, therefore, urged the people to be active by ensuring they were part of every political activity in the state.
“I will like to call on the people of Nasarawa State, especially women and youths to come out en masse for this exercise.
“I also want to tell them that without their voter cards, they cannot vote for candidates of their choice,’’ she said.
The Registration Officer at the Police Barracks registration centre, Miss Joy Ogbogu, explained to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) why some people in the state were directed to re-register.
Ogbogu said that this was due to the possibility that their data were not captured in the 2011 voters’ registration.
“It could be that in 2011 the personal data was not well captured or they registered twice.
“In that situation, the computer will not recognise the registration so the person has to register afresh,’’ Ogbogu said.
She said that the CVR would also register persons who had attained the age of 18 and those who relocated to the state. (NAN)
