(Ugbodo) Abakaliki –  Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Rachael Umahi, has tasked women on the need to play active role in national development by being virtuous and submissive in their assigned political, family and community duties.

Umahi gave the advice during a four-day Zonal Women Summit with the theme: “Total Woman”, at Ugbodo in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.

She urged the women to be tolerant, diligent and submissive at all times to both their husbands and political leaders.

According to her, what a woman makes out of her personality goes a long way to define who she is.

She, therefore, enjoined them to ensure that their characters and good conduct should speak volume in the society.

Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, Focal Person, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said that the theme of the event would accelerate women advancement, empowerment and development in the society.

She said that the event would educate women on the importance of safe child delivery, exclusive breast feeding and gains of family planning and causes of Fistula.

“The women would also be enlightened on the need to generate sources of viable income and the role of women in peace promotion in the family and community,” she said.

Chairman of the Local Government Chinyere Nwogbaga described the summit as a profitable innovation as it would unfold the dividends of democracy.

Nwogbaga said that the event came as a result of an increasing desire to uplift the status of women to take their pride of place in Nigeria.

The chairman commended Mrs Umahi for her support for women, and UNICEF for its humanitarian and development oriented services in the state.

She, however, gave the assurance of taking the campaign to the rural communities.

The Chief Zonal Officer of the United Nation, International Children Funds (UNICEF) South-East, Mr Ibrahim Conte, represented by Mr Chukwuma Elom, assured that UNICEF would continue to partner Ebonyi to record success in its development thrust. (NAN)
