Birnin Kebbi – The Kebbi Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) had concluded plan to recruit 400 unemployed graduates in efforts to reduce unemployment and end poverty, the Manager of the scheme, Mr Peter Papka, said.
Papka told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Friday that 400 graduates had been invited for the recruitment interview.
He said the scheme would train graduates through internship programme to enable them to emerge as employers of labour.
He added that the internship programme of the scheme planned to train 50,000 graduates nationwide.
“The scheme will reduce the vulnerability of unemployed graduates and build the needed critical manpower and capacity required for national development,”he said.
The manager said the scheme was a social safety net intervention and a component of community services, women and youth empowerment project and as part of the SURE-P.
He said the Federal Government instituted the scheme to cushion the impact of graduates’ unemployment rate in the country.
Papka said the recruited graduates would undergo training, which would be conducted by relevant firms and organisations for 12 months.
He said all interns would be entitled to a monthly stipend of N30,000 and called on unemployed graduates in the state to register with the scheme.
According to him, this will go a long way to acquire skills and boost their employment prospects. (NAN)
