Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong has said the government is poised to create employment opportunities from the grassroots aimed at reaching the unemployed in the hinterlands.
Lalong stated this yesterday during the signing of MOU between the Ministry of Labour and Employment and Taraba State government to hand over the Skills Upgrading and Vocational Training Center Ibi to the State Government for management.
The Minister said the partnership was necessary as it is a pointer to the fulfilment of the agreement made by the President, Bola Tinubu, on ensuring that youths are gainfully employed.
Lalong said if the grassroots are gainfully employed, it will reduce youth restiveness, poverty, drug abuse, and other crimes associated with Idleness.
Lalong lauded the Taraba State Governor, Agbu kefas for moving fast to take over the Center and urged other State governments to follow suit and partner with the Federal Government in giving youths training and capacity building to generate jobs
Our correspondent reports that the Ibi Skills acquisition centers were constructed and equipped between 2019 and 2020 as part of federal government efforts to empower the younger generation to be self-reliant.
However, Minister of State Labour and Employment Hon. Nkeiruka Onyeajeocha also assured the Taraba State government that the partnership will be sustained and enhanced.
Responding, the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Abba Karim, said Governor Kefas is excited about the takeover of the Center and will do his best to make it a reference point.
