The python is a large snake with an enormous appetite. It’s diet can range from small animals like rats, rabbits and birds to large animals like antelopes, dogs, baby cows and sometimes, humans.
However, an African Rock Python has allegedly died after it swallowed a young elephant. The snake bit of more than it can chew as the meal was too heavy for it to digest and the weight of the prey greatly injured it internally causing the death of the snake.
Reserve managers of Lake Eland Game Reserve in South Africa found the snake dead under a rock where it was trying to digest it’s meal.
This is not the first time a snake has died after swallowing a large prey. In 2015, reserve mangers also found a snake dead along a bush path after it tried to swallow a large porcupine.
