Owerri – The Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) said it condemned in its totality the manner with which Benue killings were being handled by the Federal Government.
Mr Victor Chikwendu, its Deputy National Chairman, expressed the feelings of his party while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Thursday.
He said that “the kids’ glove treatment of the incident can never help the country”, and called for the arrest and prosecution of the culprits as well to institute measures to prevent recurrence.
“Unfortunately, nobody has taken responsibility for the killings; somebody must take responsibility.
“If the herdsmen killed people, their leaders should be held responsible, you cannot come and slaughter people and get away with it,” he said.
Chikwendu said that state governors had the right to make and implement laws and no one had the right to stop them.
“If you are not comfortable with the laws of any land, you have the right to leave.”
He said the Green Party had positioned itself for 2019 elections with a view to wining major seats both at the federal and state levels.
He expressed optimism that the party would make a headway in 2019 with its arrow heads like Major Al Mustapha Hamza as its Presidential aspirant, Chief Sam Eke(PHD) as the National Chairman and Alhaji Mohammed Gusau as the National Coordinator.
According to him, the party’s structures are all set and on ground to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
He said part of the party’s mandate was to revive Nigeria’s ailing economy through agriculture and infrastructure development, adding that the dependence on oil was the major problem of the country.
The party chieftain disassociated the party from independent candidacy, saying Nigeria was not yet ripe for it. (NAN)
