ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, has urged the newly-promoted directors to serve as role models by mentoring younger officers in the civil/public service.
Walson-Jack stated this during the induction of some directors from the federal civil service on Tuesday in Abuja.
As newly-promoted directors, she said that their roles were critical in driving the reforms and ensuring that the Nigeria’s civil service remained a model of professionalism, efficiency and integrity.
“The role of the civil servant has evolved significantly over time. We no longer operate in the confines of routine administration.
“Today’s civil servants are expected to be innovative, adaptable and proactive in responding to the challenges of governance, in line with the aspirations of Nigerians.
“You are leaders now, and leadership comes with the responsibility to inspire, mentor and deliver tangible results.
“Your actions will significantly impact the lives of millions of Nigerians who depend on the effectiveness of the civil service,” she said.
Walson-Jack said that the induction marked a significant moment, not just in the professional journeys of the directors but also, in the ongoing transformation of the country’s civil service.
“2025 marks the final year of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP25). It is imperative that we collectively work towards achieving the full implementation of these transformative reforms.
“The progress made under FCSSIP25 has already set a strong foundation, but this final year presents an opportunity to consolidate gains and deliver results that will leave a lasting legacy,” she said.
The HCSF further stated that the induction was not just an introductory session but a key investment in the future of the participants and the civil service sector.
She said that the programme was also designed to provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills and insights to function effectively in their new roles.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, Mrs Fatima Mahmood, said the induction aimed to provide the directors with practical knowledge and fresh perspectives to strengthen their capacities as leaders and change agents within the federal civil service.
Mahmood, however, urged the directors to approach the training with an open mind and willingness to learn and innovate, engage actively, exchange ideas with their peers and leverage the expertise of the facilitators.
“Your success in this role will contribute to the collective transformation of the federal civil service, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of national development,” he said.
One of the inductees, Dr Aminchi Adeyemi from the HCSF office, described the exercise as one-of-its kinds, saying it was one of the programmes civil servants had been yearning for to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to work.
While lauding Walson-Jack for the initiative, Adeyemi said it was a good approach to drive the transformation, as 2025 marks the end of the FCSSIP25.
Reports that the programme, with the slogan: ‘2025: Year of Accomplishments’, has “FCSSIP25: Final Sprint – Delivering Results”, as its theme. (NAN)
