Makurdi – As Nigerians prepare for the Governorship and House of Assembly Elections on Saturday, an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Search for Common Ground, has sued for a peaceful conduct in Benue.
The group, in a statement on Wednesday in Makurdi implored political parties and politicians, who were successful at the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the state to be magnanimous in victory.
It urged those who felt aggrieved not to incite violence, but to follow the laid-down legal processes of contesting election results.
The statement, signed by Olubukola Ademola-Adelehin, its Senior Programme and Policy Analyst, also called on stakeholders in the state and those in the diaspora to work for peaceful.
It advised journalists to ensure that they exercised their franchise and report cases of arms proliferation, thuggery, hate speech and fake news.
The group equally called on the media to highlight the challenges of
vulnerable groups participating in the electioneering process and urge
INEC to address such issues immeadiately.
