Abuja (Sundiata Post) – A Jos based group, Action Against Corruption (AAC), has called on the Plateau State government to prevent the Plateau State Polytechnic from collapse.
The group also appealed to the government to also investigate the Polytechnic Rector, Mr. John Dawam for financial misappropriation saying lack of accountability of funds is also leading to decay of the institution.
The group made the call in an open letter addressed to the Governor of the State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang and a copy made available to our correspondent.
The letter as sighted by our reporter was titled: “Plateau State Polytechnic on the verge of imminent collapse: A call on Government to investigate the litany of infractions in the institution”.
Signed by the Spokesman of the group Mr. Joshua Michael, the spokesman of the group also called for the suspension of the Rector to allow an investigating panel unfettered access to records of the Polytechnic.
However, responding to the letter, when our correspondent put a call across to the Rector on the phone, Mr. John Dawam, he said: “Let the visitation panel come. I am as strong as a Lion, my records are there for the panel to peruse.”
He continued: “The spurious allegations levelled against me are borne out of malice and hatred with the aim of instigating my removal from office. The petitioners are vainglorious power mongers looking for cheap popularity and relevance in the present administration”, he said.
The letter on the other hand also alleged that Mr. Dawam came to the Polytechnic with no cognate experience and had not served as head of any department, Dean of school, Director, or any other relevant office where he should have gathered administrative experience.
The group also accused the Rector of incompetence and turning his residence to a mecca of employment as he moved computers and printers to his house turning it to the secretariat of the school where employment racketeering is being staged.
