BUJUMBRA – Burundian civil society organisations on Tuesday issued a public petition, demanding an investigation into the distribution of arms to the population ahead of the general elections.
According to the General Delegate of the Forum for the Reinforcement of Civil Society, Vital Nshimirimana, the petition will be in circulation until June16, 2014.
Nshimirimana added that it would be submitted to the Burundian Government to enable it to put in place an investigation team to clarify the rumours.
Report says the rumours have been circulating in Burundi for months now, sparking concerns by the international community.
The United Nations office in Burundi was the first diplomatic channel through which the distribution of the illegal arms ahead of the 2015 election was unveiled. (PANA/NAN)
