KAFUR – Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’a Wa Iqamatul Sunnah (JIBWIS), an NGO, on Saturday donated materials worth N345, 700 to 395 less privileged families in Kafur Local Government of Katsina State.
The beneficiaries, including orphans, widows and destitute received food stuffs, money and clothes in Kufur.
The Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Bello Abdulkadir, said in Kafur that the gesture was to support indigent families in need of assistance.
Abdulkadir, who is also the Danejin Katsina, the District Head of Mahuta, said the beneficiaries included persons with severe sickness, students and vulnerable children from poor families.
He said that each family got share of maize, corn, millet, clothes as well as cash of up to N5, 000 depending on the size of the family.
Abdulkadir said the proceeds were generated from donations by individuals and groups and urged the public to always assist the poor and the needy in their communities.
Also speaking, the Transition Council Chairman, Kafur Local Government, Alhaji Nafi’u Kuringafa, commended the organisers, saying the initiative would complement government’s effort in poverty alleviation and empowerment.
He restated the council’s continued efforts at supporting orphans, students and rehabilitation of grave yards.
The Transition Committee Chairman of the council, Alhaji Mansur Rabi’u-Banki, in his remarks, said the gesture would ease the burden on government and the beneficiaries.
Earlier, Malam Yahubu Musa, an Islamic Preacher, said the importance of assisting the less privileged in the society and described the initiative as responsibility of all.
He appealed to wealthy individuals to invest in assisting the less privileged.
Lectures were delivered on the responsibilities of individuals and communities in supporting orphans and the needy from the Islamic perspective. (NAN)
