Dr Kingsley Ogu, the Convener/National leader of the Enforcers of Good Governance (EGG) (centre) at the news conference in Abuja on Saturday
ABUJA- Enforcers of Good Governance (EGG), a socio-political pressure group, has commended the economic and infrastructure reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

The group, which is based in the Rivers, made the commendation at a news conference in Abuja on Saturday.

Dr Kingsley Ogu , its Convener and National Leader, told newsmen that Tinubu’s actions in the critical sectors of the economy where in the right direction.

He said it was therefore important that his group would through its weight behind the president’s re-election bid in 2027.

He said the group was particularly happy with Tinubu for completing the repayment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan, saying it was a heavy burden for the country for many years.

He also commended the president for the increase in crude oil production to over 1.4 million Barrels Per Day and the resolution of the Ogoni oil dispute which had lingered for several decades.

Ogu said that the proactive Tinubu reforms had started yielding positive results, adding that these informed the decision of EGG to declare its support for him.

Ogu said though EGG worked for the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, in 2023 presidential election but it would support Tinubu in 2027 because of his bold reforms.

“We are democrats; we are indigenous to Rivers State. We are arguably the largest grassroots mobilisers with members across the 23 LGA of Rivers State and beyond.

“We are on ground. So, we are stakeholders and we work for the best interest of Rivers people. We want to contribute our quota; we want to be part of this history so that posterity will be kind to us.

“Considering the current political climate in the country particularly in the Niger Delta, the time is right for Rivers people to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda,’’ he said.

According to him, since he assumed office, Tinubu had taken bold steps to promote common good.

“Although immediate effects of these reforms maybe uncomfortable, those who know his pedigree and antecedents can agree with us that Nigerians will smile at last,”  he said.

He said that Rivers people were still grieving following the declaration of a State of Emergency in the state.

According to him, though words cannot describe the pains, the people of the state believed that Tinubu took the decision with the best interest of the people at heart.

He also commended Gov. Similalaye Fubara’s recent moves to reconcile with the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike. Fubara and Wike are the two principal actors in the Rivers conflict.

“This is the right step. Efforts must be made to ensure that the duration of this state of emergency is not extended.

“We must ensure that all gladiators sheath their swords and embrace peace in the best interest of Rivers people,’’ he said.

Ogu explained that EGG had in the last three years canvassed for good governance especially at the grassroots level.

He said this was evident during the last general election where it embarked on door-to-door campaigns and canvassed for votes in the markets and motor parks.

He said that eight years would afford Tinubu the opportunity to see through his reforms and nurture them to maturity.

Alhaji Moshood-Wasiu Abiola, Country Director, Nigeria Diaspora for Asiwaju (NDA) who also spoke at the event said that his organisation would support any initiative that would reinforce good governance in the country.

Abiola said NDA believed that EGG would be instrumental in the re-election efforts of Tinubu supporters.  (NAN)
