ONITSHA (ANAMBRA) – An Igbo socio-political organisation, Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), has applauded the exemplary conduct of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Fegge, Onitsha, Mr Rabiu Garba.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the organisation on Tuesday bestowed on Garba the “NUF Best South-East Crime Fighter of the Year 2014’’ at the NUF Secretariat, Onitsha.
The Chairman of NUF, Mr Augustine Chukwudum, told NAN that the eight months stay of Garba in office had eliminated kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices associated with Fegge community and Onitsha South council area at large.
Chukwudum noted that Garba did not only fight societal crimes but misconducts in the police force while remaining one of the trustworthy police officers in the South-East.

“For giving him Best South-East Crime Fighter of the Year 2014 is to encourage other policemen.
“Let them emulate and know that whatever you do in this world there is something waiting for you.
“When you do the good thing, you reap the good and when you do the bad thing, you reap the bad thing.
`So in essence, we are doing this to strengthen him to continue the good work he is doing.
“He is a man that is not corrupt even if you carry millions here, for him to upturn judgment in your favour, he will not do that.
“We want to encourage him to do more and to call on other policemen to emulate him.
“Because if we can have somebody like he is in the 774 local governments in this country; Nigerian Police force would be the best among equals in the World,’’ he said.

He said that Garba had remained resolute in fighting extortion and intimidation of the public by policemen and officers as well as maintained the Inspector-General of Police’s order of making bail free.
“He barred his men and officers from arresting people without any offence; stopped mounting of road blocks and all forms of extortion by the rank and file under him as well as used his knowledge of the law to teach and direct them aright.
“We have seen a difference. We now know that the police force still has officers who uphold integrity even in the midst of temptation to be corrupt,’’ Chukwudum said.
He, however, urged the Police Service Commission to promote and put Garba in charge of sensitive areas of the police force within the South-East to put things right. (NAN)
