Abuja – Mr Emmanuel Okeme, the National Coordinator, Initiative for Promotion of Peace and Unity in Nigeria, on Saturday, called for healthy criticisms of government programmes and policies to move the country forward.
He made the call at the National Interfaith Thanksgiving Project for the survival of President Muhammadu Buhari and stability of Nigeria in Abuja.
He said “Nigeria has gone through various challenges, but the country still stands together; that is why we need to stop unhealthy criticisms and appreciate the efforts of this administration.
“The interfaith thanksgiving is to appreciate God for the stability of this nation; to give thanks to God for this year and to pray for His help in the New Year.
“We are here with men of God, Muslim and Christian, to pray and to give thanks.’’
He also called on Nigerians to continue to support the present administration in prayers.
The Imam of Karu Central Mosque, Imam Musa Ahmed, urged the clergy to be involved in nation building by giving constructive sermons and proper guidance to their congregation.
He said no nation could survive in crisis and implored Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
The Bishop of Christ Integrity Church, Bishop Riman Maji, also called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
He advised Nigerians to cultivate the habit of praying for leaders and to avoid subjective criticism.
The President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Garba, called on Nigerian youths to promote peace building.
Garba reminded government of its promises of job creation and participation in decision making to youths and urged that the promises be fulfilled. (NAN)
