Gusau – Joint youths associations in Zamfara under the umbrella of Labour Room Global Initiative, an NGO, on Monday in Gusau held a peaceful protest and grand rally against political violence, thuggery and killing of innocent persons in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that that five people have been killed in two weeks in the state during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary elections in the state.
Speaking during the visit to Gusau emir’s palace, the Chairman of the Labour Room Global Initiative, Nura Isah, said the peaceful protest was organized to condemn the increasing political violence and thuggery in the state.
Isah said the essence of the rally was to condemn the involvement of youths in the actwhich was causing insecurity in the society in the name of politics.
“It is very unfortunate the way our youths are being sponsored by politicians to create problems and distract peace and stability in the society.
“It was regrettable what happened recently in this state during the primary elections of political parties that some people, majority of whom were youths, being killed innocently.
“On behalf of the entire youths in the state, we condemn the action; we are extending our condolences to the parents, families and entire people of this state over the unfortunate situation,” he said.
“We consider this as a great challenge to us, we should focus on what would be good for our future and society.
“We are all aware that the Labour Room Global Initiative is working to increase youths awareness on how to become self reliant and promote national unity, peace and economic development.
“That is why we organized this rally with the support of our youths from the 14 local government areas of this state to express our dismay on the present state of our youths in Zamfara.
“This rally also marks a beginning of sensitisation campaign for our youths across the state under Labour Room Global Initiative, with the support of some NGOs and youths associations”, he added.
Responding, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, thanked the youth for the visit and urged them to be united and always embrace what would be good for the future.
The emir said “it is very sad what is happening to our youths today, most of them become thugs carrying dangerous weapons, causing havoc in the society”.
“I don’t blame any body, I blame you the youth because if you become good, nobody would use you to achieve his aim.
“We should know the danger associated with such activities, you should know that those criminal activities must be regretted even before you die; you should always remember that we are going back to our creator, the Almighty Allah, and whatever we do here is what we are going to meet there.
“You should embrace education and businesses in order to avoid being exposed to dangers in the society “, he said. (NAN)
