Abuja – A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a security guard, Robert Anugah, to two months imprisonment for breaking into an office and stealing items valued at N170, 250.
Anugah, 50, resident of Suleja in Niger, broke into the office of the chairman of the company he was assigned to guard.
He admitted committing the offence and begged for leniency.
“It is the economic hardship that led me into this; my wife is ill and also put to bed, and I needed money to take care of her “he pleaded.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Semisola Adeniyi, who convicted Anugah, however, gave him N10,000 option of fine.
“Based on the admission of the accused person, he is hereby convicted for the offence of theft and burglary.
“He is hereby sentenced to two months in prison or to pay N10, 000 as fine “she ordered
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Christopher Johnson, had informed the court that on May 18, one David Ikape of Proson Security Ltd, Mabushi, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station.
He said the convict was a guard attached to the above named company, between April 10 to April 12.
The prosecutor said that the convict stole 300 litres of diesel and vandalised two CCTV cameras when he broke into the office.
Johnson also said that the convict stole Daviva wrapper materials, three perfumes and a Mont Blank pen, all valued at N170, 250.
He informed the court that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 346 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
