Gunmen have abducted Niger State Commissioner for Information Alhaji Sani Idris.
The development is coming two months after the abduction of the Tegina Islamiyya schoolchildren.
Secretary of the State Government Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane confirmed that the commissioner was kidnapped yesterday about 1am at his hometown, Baban Tunga, in Tafa local government area of the state.
Deputy Governor Alhaji Ahmed Ketso presided over a state security meeting in respect of the abduction.
A source said the kidnappers have demanded for N500 million for Idris’ release.
An Ekiti farmer, Suyi Bamisaye was also abducted from his farm in the Okejebu area of Ikole Local Government Area of the state.
A family source said the gunmen, who abducted Bamisaye on Sunday, have asked for N5 million to release him.
Gunmen who kidnapped many persons in Kwara State have equally demanded a ransom of N30 million to free one Ayo Alabi, an engineer, who was snatched at Eleyin village between Oke-Onigbin and Omu-Aran, Irepodun local government area of the state.
Alabi was returning from a funeral ceremony on Saturday evening when his assailants whisked him away.
Gunmen also intercepted a commercial bus conveying 20 passengers and a car driven by a pastor with his wife on board at Ekan Meje/Ekiti axis both in Kwara South.
Police said they rescued the 20 passengers in a shootout with the hoodlums who held on to the pastor and his wife.
