More than 10 community members of Matusji village in Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State have been kidnapped.
Among the victims is a patient.
A villager, Ahmad Babangida told newsmen that the bandits stormed the community with sophisticated weapons and started shooting sporadically at about 2:30 am on Friday.
“We were all asleep but the heavy noise of the gunshot woke us up and everyone started running”, he said.
He admitted that though nobody was killed in the operation, many people were taken away by the gunmen to an unknown destination.
“The bandits have not said anything regarding the issue of ransom. We don’t know the whereabouts of our people,” he lamented.
According to him, those abducted include a patient receiving medical treatment while still on IV drip, pointing out that the villagers have not recovered from the shock.
Sundiata Post gathered that there was no response from security operatives during the attack.
The State police spokesman, ASP Yazeed Abubakar confirmed the incident, stating that that 10 persons were abducted by the bandits.
He added that the Command has deployed tactical police teams to rescue the kidnapped victims and arrest the bandits.
