Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Chief Executive Officer of HallowMace, Sunny Anderson has informed that the first independent legislative television in the country, HallowMace TV is expected to hit the Nigeria airwaves soon.
The Television station, when operational will be the first legislative private TV station after the government owned NTA parliament channel.
Sunny Anderson, who id also the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of HallowMace Communication limited, made the disclosure at the 2nd legislative conference 2019 held on Monday in Abuja.
According to Anderson, the company is currently expanding from its monthly specialised legislative publication, ‘HallowMace Magazine’ and the weekly one-hour ‘HallowMace On Radio’ programme in order to be in tune with the changing world of multi-media.
He however pledged that HallowMace Communications shall continue to be the leading light in organising legislative discourses for national development.
Speaking on the 2019 conference, with the theme, “Strengthening the Legislature for Effective Oversight Function,” Anderson said “since we instituted this legislative conference, it has grown to be the most authoritative gathering on legislative issues in the country. It is also the biggest gathering of parliamentarians in Nigeria aside the National Assembly itself”.
He explained that for every edition of the conference, “we choose a very germane and contemporary theme”, stressing that the theme has been broken down into three sub-themes and handled by three eminent parliamentarians.
Continuing, “As we all know, legislative oversight is oversight by the Parliament over the executive branch of government, including the numerous ministries, departments and agencies of government (MDAs). Legislative oversight includes the review, monitoring, and supervision of federal agencies, programmes, activities, and policy implementation by the National Assembly.
“It is therefore imperative to strengthen the processes and procedures that will further empower the legislature as an institution to carry out one of its core duties – oversight.
“This is not just for lawmakers to wield more powers but to engender good governance since the primary functions of legislative oversight are to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse, and to protect civil liberties and individual rights by ensuring that the executive branch complies with the laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” Anderson said.
Meanwhile, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege and Speak of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila were all represented at the conference, which saw large attendance by participants.
The key note speaker was Professor Mohammed Ladan, Director General, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal studies.
Others who presented papers included, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, Hon Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, Ossai Nicholas Ossai among others.
The 2019 legislative conference was organised by HallowMace Communications Limited in collaboration with National Orientation Agency (NOA).
