Lagos – The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) to provide the federation with funds to enable it to commence preparations for the Africa Cup of National in Handball.
The Nation’s Cup is scheduled to run from Jan. 21 to Jan. 30 in Cairo, Egypt.
Yusuf Dauda, the president of HFN told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the body was awaiting the commission for the release of the funds.
Dauda said the federation had since November submitted the proposal, ahead of the planned invitation of the players to National camping site to enable them to train adequately for the championships.
“We are appealing to the NSC for prompt response to our proposal; we are still making other arrangements to ensure that the National team players resume camping in good time.
“Since the championship will next month, the players and technical officials are have been itching to be in camp; as soon as the funds are available, we will invite them to camp.
“We want to ensure that they are well taken care of by being certain that their camp allowances will be ready, so that they will be committed during the preparation,’’ he said.
The president said the idea was to get the national teams ready for better performance at the tournament.

“With adequate preparations, the players will be in a good form to face their opponents and top the group during the preliminaries matches,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has been grouped alongside, Algeria, the defending champions, Cameroon, Morocco and Gabon in the group A.
The competition would serve as qualifiers for the 2016 World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games. (NAN)
