JALINGO – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, on Monday, organised a workshop to sensitise stakeholders on basic emergency response and fire prevention and control techniques.
Alhaji Saidu Minin, the NEMA Head of Gombe Operations Office, said in Jalingo that the workshop was for stakeholders from Bauchi, Taraba and Gombe.
Minin said the workshop was necessary because of onset of harmattan in the region.
He added that “you can agree with me that in the North East, we have started experiencing harmattan with its accompanying heavy wind that causes fire outbreaks.
“This workshop has become very necessary in this region where there are lots of security threats in worship centres, motorparks, markets and other gatherings, especially during the yuletide.’’
Represented by Alhaji Saidu Inusa, Minin urged the participants to carry the message to their various places of work to enable people to know what to do during emergency.
He said “I want you to carry the message to the markets, motor parks, worship centres and the likes.’’
Malam Umar Wazin, the state’s Information Coordinator of Red Cross, in a paper entitled: ”Trauma management in Emergency Situation’’ urged the people to embark on curative communication to reduce the effect of disaster on the victims.
Wazin said telling the victim certain kinds of truths in their condition would worsen their situation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that market associations, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, security agents, the red cross, Faithbased organisations participated in the workshop, among others. (NAN)
