Anka (Zamfara) – The Center for Supporting Vulnerable Households, Women and Children Initiative (CESVHOC), a Gusau-based NGO, has donated cold prevention wears and toiletries to over 500 orphans and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in three local government areas of Zamfara.
The three local government areas are: Anka, Bungudu and Gusau
Speaking while presenting the items to orphans and IDPs in Anka, Executive Director of the NGO, Hajiya Farida Tigana said the gesture was aimed at protecting the orphans and IDPs from the present Harmattan cold.
Tigana said the organisation was established to provide socio-economic support to the vulnerable groups in the society, especially women and children.
“As we all know, during harmattan season, parents provide cold wears for their children to prevent them from cold.
“From the little we have, we resolved to consider those who lost their parents for them to be protected in this season.
“We provided over 400 sets of items comprising cold wears and toiletries to be donated to IDPs and orphans,” she said.
The Secretary of the NGO, Malam Bashir Kabir said that in Gusau, 100 sets of cold prevention wears and toiletries were donated to the orphans and IDPs while in Bungudu 52 sets were given to orphans.
“In Anka, we are presenting 355 sets of the clothes and packages of toiletries to oprhans and IDPs,” Kabir said.
In his remark, the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad thanked the NGO for the gesture and described it as timely.
Ahmad, who is the Chairman, Zamfara Council of Chiefs called for more support from government at all levels, organizations and individuals, for IDPs and other categories of vulnerable groups in the society.
The monarch urged residents of the state to continue to pray for the sustainance of peace and stability in the state.
