IBADAN – Mr Tunde Ajobo, a dietician and Head, Department of Dietetics, University College Hospital(UCH) Ibadan, said on Thursday that headache, yellow urine and constipation were bold signs of dehydration.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Ajobo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that having persistent and constant headache may be a sign of losing body fluid or dehydration.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“Every human body constantly loses fluid and these means you are also losing essential salts like sodium and potassium that are in the fluids you are losing.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“The salt loss actually changes the chemical makeup of the blood and the brain in turn is super sensitive to that change, and that sensitivity triggers a headache.
“The headaches get worse depending on how much water one loses. The more water you lose, the more your blood volume drops, which cause less oxygen flow to the brain.
“This causes your blood vessels to dilate and this can make the head ache even worse,” Ajobo said.
The expert also explained that when the urine is extra yellow it means that it was over-concentrated with waste, which had not been flushed out due to inadequate body fluid.

He added that when the body is fully hydrated, the waste is easily flushed out in a more efficient manner.
Ajobo listed constipation as another sign that the body fluid was insufficient.
“Water helps a lot in moving your waste through your colon and out of your body, but if that water was not there, it would not move your waste onward and outward efficiently, hence the constipation,” he said. (NAN)
