Women and children displaced by herdsmen attacks in Plateau State now take to ‘trafficking’ to survive, a local women group, Berom Women Development Association has said.
Most of them lost their businesses and farms in the attacks that have persisted since 2012, President of the association, Mrs. Florence Jambol said, Thursday.
Government’s failure to return the IDPs home to their socioeconomic lives has worsened their plights, said Jambol at the funeral of a local village chief, Mr. Timothy Babuje in Shonong Community, Riyom Local Government Area.
Children according to her have also taken to “strange vices” to survive.
The women leader appealed to government to speedily facilitate the home return of the IDPs to enable them pick up and rebuild.
She said, “I am sad as I speak to you now, yes we have come home to bury our chief, but nobody is living in this community.
“This place has been attacked more than four times since 2012.
“Still the people desire to return home especially women, because a woman prefers to take care of her situation even in a shackle than outside her home”.
