ABUJA (Sundiata Post) (This is a bit lengthy. Wanna read? You will be glad you did)
I have never been a fan of Saraki but even if a thief is to be cheated out of a stolen loot by other thieves, FAIRNESS must first prevail before PUNISHMENT.
Kindly follow these points:
- In 2014, there were three main legs in the APC: the now defunct CPC, ACN and nPDP.
In trying to see off Jonathan, the three came with unique strenghts: Buhari’s CPC came with a lot of followership from the North. ACN came with its organizational strength and nPDP with cash and voting strength.
Incidentally, only CPC did not come with funds except Buhari’s perceived “integrity”. Since Fashola was still in charge of Lagos with his godfather, Tinubu, a lot of Lagos State funds went into Buhari’s campaign.
It was agreed that while CPC would take the President, ACN would produce the Vice-President nPDP wanted the Number Three job. And Saraki made it clear that that was his preference.
It must be noted that Tinubu wanted the Vice-Presidency for himself but the likes of Saraki and Amaechi were said to have stood their grounds against this on the basis of religious sensibilities.
Immediately APC won, Tinubu bared his fangs and also wanted someone from his side to become the Senate President. George Akume’s name came up. But when Buhari loyalists came up with Ahmad Lawan, Tinubu teamed up with them just to block Saraki.
While Buhari pretended as if he was not interested in who headed the National Assembly, his loyalists were actually plotting against Saraki. Had they succeeded, the nPDP would have lost out in the power equation.
Either by hook or crook, Saraki outwitted them and became the SP. And that was the beginning of his problem with the Presidency and APC.
Realities
1. Buhari does NOT till today have the kind of political structures the nPDP guys have. Neither does he have their resources. Buhari has never built loyalists across the country like Atikus and Sarakis of this world.
Facebook
2. These are masters of the game of power who knows how to stoop to conquer. By allowing Ganduje to rubbish Kwankwaso in Kano, Buhari dug his own political grave. By encouraging El-Rufai to bloody Shehu Sani and Hunkuyi in Kaduna, he opened his own flanks.
- These were same mistakes Jonathan made in some key states both in the North and the South. He is regretting it today.
Since 2015, Buhari has not won to his side a SINGLE known and ruthless political enforcer who can get things done for him either in the National Assembly or the party itself.
To be continued….
