Indigenes of the Oloibiri Community of Ogbia Local Government Council Area of Bayelsa State were on Monday thrown into tears by the horrific sight of a 67-year-old woman, Mrs.Rose Jonny killed and buried in a shallow grave by her 24-year-old son, Godsgift Jonny.
The mother of four children, according to sources in the community, was killed in her sleep with machete and dragged through the window of her room for a secret burial in a shallow grave at the back of her home.
SundiataPOST gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 9.30pm on Sunday, caused commotion in the community. Some of the indigenes claimed such incident has defiled their land and proper cleansing through prayers is needed. Eyewitnesses said that the boy, who is suspected to be disturbed and deranged, had out of anger told his that she would not see the next day.”
A member of the Jonny Family, identified as Godwin, declined to speak with when contacted on telephone, insisting that they prefer to keep the incident within the family.
But the spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said though the case has been transferred from the Ogbia Police Station to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for investigation,”the killer has been claimed to be psychologically disturbed by the family.”
