Minna – The House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education on Wednesday promised to ensure adequate funding to the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, made the promise when he led members on an oversight visit to the institution.
A statement issued by Ahmed Ibrahim, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Rector, said the chairman expressed delight over the ongoing physical developments in the polytechnic.
It quoted Suleiman as saying that such physical developments would ensure academic excellence in the institution.
Suleiman, according to the statement, said that the visit availed the committee members the opportunity to ascertain the needs of the institution and make adequate recommendations on funding.
He said it was the responsibility of lawmakers to pay oversight visits, adding that the committee would contribute positively to the growth of tertiary institutions in the country .
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Abubakar Dzukogi, said that the contributions of polytechnic education to the nation’s economic growth could not be overemphasised.
He said this was why there was need for better funding of polytechnic education.
The rector promised to do everything humanly possible toward giving the polytechnic a facelift and justify the confidence reposed in him.(
