House Of Reps passes Bills For College of Nursing Obuoffia and Federal Medical Center, Akpugo

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Two Bills sponsored by Honourable Nnolim Nnaji were on Thursday, 15th December, 2022, passed by the House of Representatives.

The two Bills are for the establishment of Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obuoffia, Awkunanaw and for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The House in plenary had considered the Bills clause by clause before their eventual passage.

Honourable Nnaji who represents Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and also the Chairman House Committee on Aviation,
had during a public hearing organised by the Committee on Health Institutions on the Bills stressed that they were for the purpose of promoting healthcare and capacity building for general medical services.

He further noted that it had become needful to utilize the Legislative process to promote the ideal goals for human and healthcare development.

Honourable Nnaji equally added that the two Bills would help to revamp the health sector through the provisions of modern medical centre and scientific training facilities for health workers.

Sundiata Post recalls that Rep Nnaji further opined that imperical studies had shown that the low number of tertiary health facilities per unit of population could lead to lengthy wait for specialised care.

The House will subsequently transmit the Bills to the Senate for concurrence.
