Housekeeper docked for theft of employer’s N3m jewellery

Lagos – A 20-year-old housekeeper, Elizabeth Igwe, who allegedly bolted with her employer’s jewellery valued at N3 million, was on Wednesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The court, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The prosecution said the accused unlawfully entered her employer’s room and carted away jewellery worth N3 million.

Insp. Francisca Okere told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 17 at about 2.00 p.m. at No. 16, Kazeem St., Chevy View Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

“Igwe packed all the jewellery and gave them to her boyfriend at Alpha Beach.

“Before she was apprehended, the accused had planned to leave for her village for Christmas and had no plans of coming back to work for her boss.’’

The offences contravened Sections 285 (7), 306 and 509of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The housekeeper pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry and stealing.

The Magistrate, Mr L. A. Owolabi, adjourned the case till Feb. 4, 2016 for further hearing. (NAN)
