Abuja – The police on Friday arraigned, a housewife, Bumi Ajulo, who allegedly defrauded her business partner of N27.8 million in a Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp.
Ajulo, 43, of Savana Estate Gudu, Abuja is charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, of FCT command, said the complainant, Mrs Faridat Bolaji of Mikuch Ville Estate, reported the matter at the Area command, Life Camp via a written petition.
Ejike alleged that the defendant introduced a business contact to the complainant in 2015 and 2017, and based on trust and relationship, the complainant invested at different times N27.8 million in the business.
He said the defendant promised that the business would give her return on investment but failed and the defendant began to threaten Bolaji’s life and that of her family.
The prosecution said during police investigation, the defendant admitted to the crime.
Ajalo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Chinyere Nwecheonwu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12 while the other a business man or woman.
Nwecheonwu ordered that the surety must present a valid means of identification and a business card which must be verified by the court officials.
She adjourned the matter untill March 30 for hearing.
