A 39-year-old man, Dolapo Babalola, confessed to the murder of five individuals, including his cousin and friend, during a spree of motorcycle thefts in Okeigbo, Ondo State. Babalola, who admitted to engaging in ritualistic practices, disclosed details of his gruesome actions, which involved attacking victims with a stick and stone before dismembering their bodies.
Speaking to journalists at the state police headquarters in Akure, Babalola revealed that he had been involved in these crimes since 2021, operating within the town and neighboring states. He confessed to killing Opeyemi, his friend, and selling his motorcycle, as well as other similar incidents where he targeted unsuspecting victims.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladapo, disclosed that Babalola’s arrest led to the apprehension of other suspects involved in the robbery and murder cases. The investigation uncovered a series of murders committed by Babalola, with victims in different locations across Kogi, Osun, and Ondo states. Additionally, accomplices who received stolen items and aided in the production of fake documents were arrested.
In a separate case, the police arrested a suspected assassin who had threatened a victim and extorted money from her. The suspect claimed to have killed over 500 people and demanded payment from the owner of a pure water factory. Another murder case involved Abdullahi Fatai, who was suspected of killing his wife during a domestic dispute.
Commissioner Oladapo urged the public to provide vital information to security agencies to prevent and combat criminal activities effectively.
