The President told the crowd that they should keep supporting all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across all levels, promising to work with the people to bring development to the state.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being insincere for accusing him of not doing anything for Rivers and Bayelsa people while on the other hand saying he had concentrated developmental projects in the Niger Delta.
The President said he would rather concentrate on how his administration agenda is transforming all facets of national life.
H added that this period is all about young people, saying that his administration had made sure 12 new federal universities were built to expand the capacity of the system to accommodate more undergraduates.
The President thanked Rivers State people for their support while recalling how he had spent most years of his growing up in the state.
“This year is dedicated to the young people. We wanted to make ensure all states had federal universities and expand the capacity of school system to admit youths, that is why we built 12 new federal universities,” the President said.
The Vice President, ANamadi Sambo said Jonathan has made Nigeria’s economy the largest in Africa while bringing back the moribund rail sector.
Speaking earlier, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan asked the people to give 2.4 million votes to her husband on February 14 rather than the two million votes they gave in 2011.
Both governor of Akwa Ibom State and former governor of Rivers State, Godswill Akpabio and Peter Odili respectively, had said that the since the south south region had carried the country’s economic burden for 50 years, Jonathan should be allowed to do a second term in office unconditionally.
The Deputy National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus called on the United Nations to investigate the certificate saga involving APC candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
The PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Chief Nyesom Wike also boasted that it was not Rotimi Amaechi who gave Jonathan two million votes in 2011, adding that on February 14 he would ensure the President also gets same number of votes to prove that the incumbent governor is inconsequential in the state.
He challenged Amaechi to give Buhari the same two million votes he claimed to have given Jonathan in 2011
National chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu presented the party’s flag to Wike and his running mate.
Earlier, Jonathan had told traditional rulers who waited for him at the Port- Harcourt International Airport that he was not bothered that people say he had done nothing for Rivers and Bayelsa people.
“They say I have not developed Rivers and Bayelsa states. That’s fine. That means I am not a selfish person. I see the entire country as my immediate constituency,” he said.
He however said the development of the two states was dear to his heart promising to address the issues of development in Rivers State with the traditional rulers in subsequent meetings.
The traditional ruler of Ogba land, Dr Chukeumela Nnam Obi II said the President was a humble gentleman, pledging the support of the monarchs in his re-election bid.
