Amsterdam – The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on Wednesday confirmed 70 charges against former Ugandan warlord Dominic Ongwen and committed him to trial.
The ICC said in a statement that there was sufficient evidence to start proceedings.

According to the statement, Ongwen stands accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, rape, torture and the use of child soldiers.
He was a former senior commander of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), which terrorised Uganda from 1987 to 2006, killing tens of thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands of people.
Ongwen was also one of the most influential deputies of LRA leader Joseph Kony, who is still on the run.
The court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Ongwen in 2005, and he surrendered in the Central African Republic in January 2015.
However, no date had been set for the trial.
Meanwhile, Ongwen had repeatedly proclaimed his innocence. (dpa/NAN)
