Benin – Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo, has urged law graduates of the institution to use their knowledge to promote good laws in the society.
He made the call on Saturday at a valedictory service held for 314 graduates of the Oba Erediawa College of Law of the university.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the valedictory service of the 2018/2019 session was held at the university’s main auditorium, Okada.
The vice-chancellor said the valedictory sessions signified the end of an era and the beginning of another sphere of possibilities and opportunities for the students.
“This is my first valedictory service as a vice-chancellor of this great university with towering pedigree.
“To all my law graduates in whom I am well pleased I congratulate you.
“I charge you to be the best students and alumni of this great university. Always invoke the principles of best practices anywhere you go.
“Igbinedion has grown significantly and has graduated so many students,” he said.
Ezemonye, who urged the graduates to use their knowledge to promote good laws in the society, added that a world without a lawyer is not complete.
Also, Prof Rasheed Ijaodola, Dean College of Law, who inducted the graduates, said the college had been fully accredited.
Ijaodola, who thanked God for the life of the students, advised the graduates to acquaint themselves with the code of professional ethics.
He thanked the parents of the new law students for entrusting their children into the hands of the lecturers in the university.
Earlier, Dr Joshua Olukayode, a guest lecture, who gave the valedictory lecture, said the Nigerian legal system was based on English common law, modified by Nigerian rulings, constitution, customary and sharia laws.
He advised the graduates to do better than their predecessors, as they had been given the best training from one of the best universities in the country. (NAN)
