THE Igbo community in Oyo State has officially declared support for the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan and all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the state, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
This was made known during the community’s reunion ceremony at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan. Speaking through the group’s spokesperson, Chief Otis Okoromadu, it noted “…having evaluated the scorecard of the president, he has done marvelously well to deserve another term.”
While thanking the entire Igbo nation for their support for President Jonathan’s re-election bid, Chief Jumoke Akinjide, Minister of State for FCT, tasked the Igbo community in Ibadan to be committed to peace and unity for the sake of brotherliness and nation building.
She described the Igbos as “loving and hardworking people who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.”
Senator Teslim Folarin, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the state, while expressing his joy, said he shared the sentiment of the reunion.
He emphasised the need for love and unity among the Igbos in the state, saying “it is necessary for development.”
He charged them to vote overwhelmingly for President Jonathan who he described as an agent of peace and change. He added that those resisting President Jonathan “are the ones who do not believe in the greatness of Nigeria and they have shown this by discarding the National Confab,” which he said addressed the fundamental problems of the country.
The traditional leaders of the Igbo community in the state, Chief Obi Aloysius and Chief Alex Anozie, also pledged their total reunion and commitment to peace as they said they had buried the hatchet.

They expressed their joy and thanked everyone who helped to facilitate the reunion, promising to work together.
They further declared President Jonathan as their consensus presidential candidate and all the PDP candidates, especially Senator Folarin.
They, therefore, urged all Igbos and non indigenes resident in Oyo State to vote for the PDP.
Meanwhile, the wife of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mrs Angela Folarin, has donated borehole water service to the Gbaremu community in Ijokodo area of Ibadan.
She said she was challenged by the acute water shortage in that area that has made life miserable in the community.
The community members were full of gratitude to Mrs Folarin. They pledged total support for the PDP which they described as the people’s party. (Nigerian Tribune)
