UMUAHIA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued Certificate of Return to Mrs Nkemdirim Iheasimuo of PDP, who won last Saturday’s House of Assembly by-election in Aba-South State Constituency.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Jacob Jattau, who presented the certificate in Umuahia on Friday, urged her to join her colleagues in the house and commence legislative activities immediately.
“You have been given the certificate of return to represent your constituency and perform legislative functions in the House of Assembly,’’ Jatau said.[eap_ad_2]
Iheasimuo, who addressed newsmen after receiving the certificate, promised to “carry on with the lofty programmes of her late husband’’.
She also promised to attract development projects to the area and to continue with her husband’s humanitarian and empowerment programmes for the constituents.
She expressed appreciation for the massive support given to her during the election, and urged her opponents to put the election behind them and join her to develop the area.
Iheasimuo polled 1,655 votes to defeat Mr Smart Ebere of the APC and Chief Chimaobi Apara of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who scored 313 votes and 252 votes, respectively.
The new lawmaker succeeded her husband, Nwogu, who died in March. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
