Lagos – The management of Ikeja Electric (IE) on Wednesday urged electricity consumers in the zone to assist the company with useful information to apprehend those involved in energy theft.
Mr Felix Ofulue, Head, Corporate Communications Unit of the company, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to him, this will go a long way in reducing the revenue the company is losing to energy theft and also reduce the outcry over outrageous billing of consumers.
He said that consumers should provide useful information on any person or company using power supply illegally in their communities by reporting to the nearest Undertaking office or call any of the Customer Care help lines.
Ofulue said the company had started carrying out enumeration of consumers in the zone to know the number of consumers and ensure that no customer was left out in its metering plan.
He, however, condemned physical assault of the company’s staff in the course of their duty, adding that such act would no longer be condoned.
He added that the company would explore legal options to ensure that the attackers were brought to book.
“We have set processes in place to ensure that whatever bills customers receive reflects what they use.
“With these efforts, I believe that the incidence of arbitrarily high bill will reduce with the cooperation of our customers who will also expose the energy thieves in their respective neighbourhoods.
“I appeal to our numerous consumers to allow peace to reign by allowing our workers to do their normal duty without assaulting them,’’ he said. (NAN)
