Ikole (Ekiti State) – Residents of Ikole community in Ekiti State have lauded the state government over the commencement of the rehabilitation of the township road.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the rehabilitation contract was awarded by the former Gov. Kayode Fayemi led-administration but the work was suspended after it left office.
The Gov. Ayodele Fayose-led administration, in January, directed the contractor to return to site after mobilisation.
Since then, heavy duty and other equipment have been working on the road.
A cross section of residents of Otunja, Igbonna, Asin and Isaba, have expressed joy over the development and called for thorough supervision of the work so that quality job would be done.
Mr Josiah Adenika, a youth leader in Asin community, said the resumption of work on the road was in fulfillment of Fayose’s electioneering promise.
Adenika commended the present administration for embarking on infrastructural development across the state in spite of paucity of funds.
Meanwhile, Chief Toye Olagunju and Mr Dada Adebisi, landlords in Otunja and Igbonna respectively, have appealed to the state government to extend the rehabilitation work to all roads in the town.
Olagunju observed that some roads within the town were in deplorable condition and needed urgent attention from government.
Adebisi urged the government to also look into the inability of some residents to access potable water, suggesting that boreholes should be drilled in populated areas.
Mrs Eunice Adeloye, who resides in Isaba community, urged management of Ikole Local Government Council to follow the footsteps of the state government in the rehabilitation of all access roads in the area.
“Drainage and culverts should be constructed on these roads while those that require filling of potholes should be attended to before the commencement of the rainy season,“ Adeloye said. (NAN)
