Aba (Abia) – Gov Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has called on security agents in the state to apprehend persons said to have planned to import election results from outside Abia state.

Ikpeazu made the call on Saturday after he voted at his Obingwa Ward 7, Unit 002, at his country home in Umuobiakwa.

He said that the arrest of such persons would help to bury the rumours about the importation of fake results into Abia.

“I think the security agencies are on top of the game, who knows.  It is too early to conclude right now.

“Pieces of information here and there say that people may try to bring in already prepared results from even from outside Abia.

“These are the pieces of information flying in the air but we are watching and waiting for the security agencies to do the needful.

“I will be happy if they apprehend such people and put to rest such rumours,” he said.

Ikpeazu said chances of his victory over his co-contestants were high because his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the 75 percent of the votes during the last elections in Abia.

He stressed that following such results, no unknown person contesting the post would stop him from winning.

Ikpeazu said that the organization of the gubernatorial elections was better than that of the presidential election noting that INEC had improved.

The governor and his wife, Nkechi voted at 9 :45 am.

Dr Blessing Nwagba, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate said there were reported election malpractices in Abia but prayed that the election would be credible.

She said that she would win despite all that may happen because Abia people wanted change in governance.

She admitted there was voter apathy but stated it would not affect her victory as she would be declared winner at the end of the election.

Nwagba voted by 11 : 40 a.m at the Old GRA, Aba North Ward 7, Unit 17 to 24 and immediately left the polling unit.(NAN)
