Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Federal lawmaker representing Niger East senatorial district in the Red Chamber, Senator Sani Musa has declared his intention to contest for the office of the Senate President in the 10th Assembly if it is zoned to the North Central.
Sani Musa made the clarification on Tuesday while fielding questions from the Online journalists on wide range of political issues, including but not limited to, the news making rounds that he nurses the ambition to contest for the Senate Presidency.
In his words: ” why I have not made a formal declaration is because I am a party loyalist, a party man who believes in the supremacy of the party and the National Working Committee (NWC) under the chairmanship of his Excellency Distinguish Senator Abdullahi Adamu who has advised all those with intention and ambition to contest for principal office positions to wait till when the party zones various offices. But be it as it may, it does not foreclose us from making our intents known and I actually intend to go for the office of the senate president if it is zoned to North Central and if it is not zoned to the north Central and it happens that the office of the Deputy Senate President is zoned to the north Central, then that’s the office I’ll go for.”
He further stated that the reason why he gave this caveat is because we are in a circular state, Nigeria is a secular country where there’s freedom of association just as there is freedom to your fate and so as we happen to have a president elect that is a muslim and a vice president elect that is also muslim, how will it look if we have a senate president that is a muslim and speaker that is a muslim, we have a chief judge that is a muslim. Where’s secularity, where is the equity in leadership?
As far as I’m concern i believe that we should have a spread of it.
Those who are aspiring for the positions at the moment are all qualified and competent and I believe we should give the party some space so that they will be able to unite this country, because there’s no better time that we want unity than now.
The ranking Senator said his victory at the just concluded polls will spur and ginger him to do more for his constituency in particular and Nigeria in general, as well as conduct himself in the best standard that a parliamentarian is expected to be.
