Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Former minister of Aviation and Director of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation has commended the call by Prof Charles Soludo to the Buhari led government for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Fani Kayode made the commendation on his twitter handle @realffk saying, “I am pleased with Charles Soludo’s call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Ike Ekweremadu and John Nwodo have made similar calls. I commend them”.
The Director of Radio Biafra and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Maxi Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention even after Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal high court, Abuja ordered his immediately release. The court held that the continued detention of Kanu by the Department of States Services (DSS) was unlawful.
Earlier, Shuaibu Usman of the magistrate court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja, discharged Kanu, on all counts of criminal conspiracy, intimidation and leading an unlawful society brought against him by the federal government.
Sundiata Post recalls that Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu had called on the President Mohammadu Buhari -led Federal Government to show regard to rule of law. He made the call in his speech at South East Economic and Security Summit where he chided the government for not releasing detained leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Ekweremadu, “It was not in the interest of the country for the government to show disregard to orders of court.
“We must give everybody his due; if the court says somebody should be released from detention, government should comply with such order.
“This reminds me of the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu; whatever is his offence, he is still presumed innocent until found guilty by the court. He must have his day in court and government should obey court order and release him.”
In a related development, the President –General of Ohaneze, John Nwodo while addressing journalists after the inaugural meeting of the national executive committee of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, reaffirmed his initial call for the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu and other detained pro-Biafra agitators across the country, urging the President to assume the role of a father who would not destroy his own children.
Nnamdi Kanu is in detention on alleged treasonable felony level against him by the Federal Govermnent.
