Lokoja – Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, has charged Nigerian Muslims to imbibe the spirit of selflessness and service to God as well as humanity as preached by the Holy Prophet Mohammed.
A statement signed by Mr Kingsley Fanwo, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), said that Bello made the call in his Ramadan message to the Muslim Ummah.
The statement, issued to newsmen on Monday in Lokoja quoted the governor as saying that societal ills were undermining the peace and development of the country.
He said societal ills would be reduced if the people would think about what they could give to the society instead of what they would get from society.
Stressing that societal ills had remained a clog in the wheels of national development, Bello challenged Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to send a strong signal of peace and development to the world.
The governor reminded Muslims that the month of Ramadan was a period of self-denial, selflessness, charity and a time for sober reflection.
He urged them to pray for the unity and progress of the nation.
He also urged Islamic clerics to peace.
He said, “Islam is a religion of peace, hence, the need for Islamic clerics and faithful to preach peace and co-existence between people of different religious persuasions.”
Bello wished Muslim faithful and the Islamic world a fruitful Ramadan period even as he urged them to pray for global peace and economic development.
The governor pledged to govern the state with the fear of Allah. (NAN)
